Would You Rather Have Quality Or Basic?

All of us would probably like to get the best quality that we can for an affordable price, but when it comes to something that is handmade using age old traditional methods such as Signcast’s house signs then you are going to get the best quality signs available today. Hand made in the U.K by craftsmen who have perfected their casting art over decades, products made with this type of dedication are hard to come by these days. It’s not surprising then that you are going to see a quality product at a cost that is affordable to most of today’s homeowners. If you are looking to obtain a basic house number or nameplate with little thought or attention to detail then this is not the place for you. Signcast make house plaques with a dedication which is second to non when it comes to creating an authentic cast metal product. The signs are made by hand from start to finish and give the ultimate choice in design styles and finishes. The small bespoke foundry is capable of making one off pieces as well as the general range of readily available plaques for the home and garden which are ready to purchase off the shelf, such as ‘beware of the dogs’ and ‘No entry’ signs. With such dedication to traditional methods of casting each sign is unique and comes out of the casting process with an authentic traditional look and feel. As they are not created using machines there is an age old feel to most of the signs which sits very well on country cottages, farms, Victorian town houses and listed properties to mention a few. Signcast have also made signs for Heritage trails, Historical blue plaques, memorial bench plaques and commemorative award plaques. All of the plaques are made with care and will last a lifetime, because despite much of today’s mass produced  home bargain basement mentality, for most quality still counts and is appreciated.

What’s The Best Type Of House Sign For Me?

When it comes to house signs, like everything else, style is all important. That’s why we have created different styles of signs for different settings. Our polished aluminium range is ideal for you if you have a more modern home or have chosen chrome door furniture and would like a sign to match. Our more traditional hand painted house signs can be made more artistic by adding a motif to suit your name or kept quite simple with little detail, do whatever it takes to make it unique to you. Our brass and bronze range is ideal for a town house or grand manor house suiting a Georgian or Edwardian style home perfectly. All of our signs can be made large enough for use on Farmhouses or small enough for use on small cottages and quaint holiday retreats or summerhouse, even your pet can have one displayed on their home too. If you are wondering which is the best type of house sign, consider where you want to place it, the age or style of the building it is to go on to and the space available. Then choose the shape that would suit your home and decide between painted, polished or natural. We can leave our signs unpainted as some people like to leave them to corrode for a natural aged appearance, or in the case of the brass and bronze plaques we can artificially age the signs using a chemical paternation process. There are also a number of plaque shapes and sizes to consider, we have arches, ovals, double rimmed, square, round, oblong, rectangular, and deep edged styles and also some more ornate high top arches, curved edge and scrolls to choose from.If all this is too daunting for you and you just see something that you like, then our best advice is always trust your own taste and just buy it if you like it.

How To Make A Great First Impression

Have you ever thought of what makes a great first impression? How important are first impressions? And why would you take the time to make sure you got things right. When it comes to your home the very first impression your visitors have of you and your home is created by your house name plaque or number. That is why here at www.signcast.co.uk we think it’s important that we help you to get it right. When choosing any house signs from the ‘design your own’ range you have ultimate choice of plaque style, colour and size, not to mention a huge choice of sign motifs to add a distinctive and personal touch. House signs can add value to your home and help you make a great first impression. The name you choose should reflect something about your home or the occupants. Most people choose something special about their home such as it’s location or the tree’s in the garden. Some people choose to complement the family line or heraldry and some like a quirky fun name to add pleasurable appeal for their guests and themselves. Whatever impression you would like to make consider the occupants, position of the home or some other details that makes your home unique and special to you. Then sit back and let an appropriate house name drift into and out of your mind for a while, try it on for size almost and see how it sits with you, then when you are ready to display your name choose a house sign that is appropriate for your home, one that will be seen clearly from it’s position and one that is well made and will last you until you decide to move house at least. If your home is modern choose a polished aluminium finish, if it is more traditional choose a hand painted house sign and if you want the manor house feel choose cast bronze or brass. Whatever you choose, if you have a name and a plaque displayed on the front of your home you will make a great first impression.

How To Mount Your House Sign Using Screw Fixings

There are several ways for you to mount your house sign. Once you have unwrapped it and been thrilled by it’s carefully hand painted or polished finish, the next thing you do will be determined by it’s position on your property and the type of fixings you have chosen. If you have chosen screw fixings, as you wish to mount your house sign onto a wall, then you will need to hold the plaque in place and level whilst carefully marking the screw hole points with a pencil, by placing the pencil through the fixing holes. Once you have done this open your screws to make sure they are all there, including the raw plugs which go into the wall first once you have drilled a hole. The next thing to do is to drill the holes into the wall where you have made your marks. Then place the raw plugs into the holes, following that hold your sign up with the screw holes level with the raw plugs and place your screws through the holes and screw gently into the plugs one at a time. Afterwards use a screw driver to drive the screws securely in place and Voila! your house sign is now proudly displayed.

House Signs And Names

The name you give to your house is a very important factor when it comes to how you and your home are viewed, often even before someone has visited you personally. As when you give your address to someone the image a name can evoke is a large part of someones perception and reaction. Just imagine for a moment Lily Cottage, The Grange or The Old Well. Each conjures up a completely different image and yet possibly all of them create a feeling of history or something old and authentic. Then imagine, the man cave, or Dave’s pad, or Grandad’s shed and each make you think of a special male retreat. A special summer hideaway might be called The Rose House,  Harbour View or The Cosy Seashell all of which give a relaxed ambiance. So if you are thinking of naming a special place, or your home, think carefully about the feelings the name evokes, as well as the importance to you personally. Some people give their homes a name that has a specific meaning for them, maybe a family name or the joining of two or more names to create one house name, but whatever the name you choose, then we can make a beautiful personal cast plaque to display your name exquisitely, so take a look at our design your own range, choose your style, tell us the name you have chosen and any motif you would like to be hand painted and sit back and relax knowing you will have a plaque to enjoy for years to come.

Signs Of A Beautiful Home And Garden

What better way to start off Springtime than with a general tidy and clean in your garden? To make your outdoor area extra special, it is always great to add a couple of little touches to personalise your space. We like to think that signs have an important role in the garden for several reasons. On the whole they add some interest or humour but generally they are especially important for delivering messages to keep pets safe or your garden well looked after. Our ‘please keep off the grass’ signs come in a variety of sizes and styles to suit different sized gardens, or you could try, ‘please keep to the path’, as an alternative message plaque. ‘Please close the gate’, is always popular as are the  ’dogs loose, please close the gate‘ gate signs. If you like to spend nearly all day in the garden as the weather improves then, ‘we are in the garden‘ is the ideal sign for you. If you want something really special then why not try making your own message from our, ‘design your own’, range, where you can be as creative as you like. We have had ‘Ann’s potting shed, and ‘the man-cave’, made to customers orders, so let your imagination run as wild as a wild flower garden when creating your bespoke sign. We love seeing your ideas come to life and creating something really unique and special. We have many lovely floral motifs to choose from which make beautiful decorative finishes to any signs. We may decide to start a competition for the most innovative design. So get your Easter thinking bonnets on and pull a few rabbits out of your hats to make your Spring garden simply stunning.
