Time For A Garden Sign

Spring is well and truly with us and thoughts are turning to the home and garden once more. Certainly the weather has been ideal the last few days for tidying up the garden and beginning to think about planting and growing again. Some of our favorite general house signs are the garden range. We love the quirky ‘we are in the garden‘ door plaque, which can be screw fixed or hung on  the door handle using ribbon. Our prettily painted flowers on the ‘keep off the grass‘ sign would enhance any garden setting and can be fixed to a fence or wall or attached to one of the ground spikes and placed into a border or lawn. We’re sure that after a busy day spent working in the garden, the last thing anyone wants is muddy boots trampled through the house and our ‘boot room’ sign will let everyone know where to leave their boots. If you don’t have the luxury of a boot room then at least you can let everyone know to take their shoes off with a ‘please remove your shoes’or keep your floors clean with a ‘please wipe your feet‘ sign. if you have a special place to retreat to such as a potting shed or summerhouse, why not treat yourself to a little name plaque made especially for you from our design your own range of house signs. Then once the days gardening is over it’s time for a well earned soak of those tired muscles in the bathroom and putting up your feet to rest until tomorrow.

Hand Crafted But Not In A Forge

It seems that sometimes folks get a little mixed up when it comes to metals and how cast metal goods are produced. People often interchange wrought iron for cast iron and don’t understand the difference when it comes to cast aluminium versus cast iron or wrought iron. To shed a little light on things we would like to say that cast iron products are made in a foundry using a furnace as is cast aluminium, however cast aluminium has a much lower melting point than iron and therefore lends itself well to making such items as cast metal signs for the home and garden. Wrought iron makes a totally different product, being bent in a forge by a blacksmith, the items made are usually very ornate and it makes great gates, brackets and garden furniture. Our ground spikes are made in this way, these are made to suit each sign exactly and finished with the same powder coated finish that our cast signs are. Signs that are made from cast iron are much heavier than cast aluminium and although very durable they are prone to rusting and pitting as the years pass, whereas aluminium when properly powder coated will not show signs of corrosion. House plaques are well suited to being cast in aluminum and look lovely when coated and hand painted. Cast iron signs are more often used in town centers for use as Historical blue plaques and commemorative plaques, however the cast aluminium signs are now taking over in most areas due to the lightness of the metal in comparison. All of Signcasts plaques are hand crafted using age old traditional casting techniques to create an authentic original house sign, whether it is cast in iron, aluminium, brass or bronze, here in our U.K foundry, a place where we know our metals.

Fabulous Farm Signs But Beware Of The Chickens

With the first day of Spring officially here the hens are happy to begin laying again, which those who live out in the countryside know only too well. The trend these days is to keep chickens in smaller gardens too and so our ‘Beware of the Chickens‘ signs come in very handy for those who would rather keep their hens safely enclosed. We also have ‘please keep the gate closed’ signs to ensure your pets and livestock are not let out onto a dangerous road. Many of our cottage gate signs are ideal for farms, bed and breakfast establishments and rural estates. We have some super motifs for larger farm signs and gate or stable plaques which are painted by our talented artist here in the U.K. including Horses, Badgers,Hedgehogs,Bulls or many rural buildings or scenes such as bridges, gates and country cottages.

Queens Jubilee Commemorative Plaques

As it is the Queens Jubilee this year we are being asked by many local communities and Parish councils to make some delightful cast commemoration plaques. We can make these in solid cast bronze, brass or aluminium with beautiful antiqued backgrounds, or finished in a durable powder coated finish. A lot of commemorative plaques are positioned in the ground on a stake near a tree or in a village square or green. We provide rear fixings on our plaques for attachment to ground spikeswhich gives a pleasing uniform finish to the plaque face. All celebration plaques are  carefully made using our traditional hand casting process here in our U.K foundry, where we fly the flag for the best of British, in both our expertise, skills and production methods. Being a small bespoke foundry allows us to give our customers that little bit of extra attention that everyone deserves but few are still able to provide. British goods manufactured completely in England are hard to find these days and certainly when it comes to something as important as your Jubilee celebrations, it seems only fitting that your commemorative plaques should have been. So whether you are having a street party a school fete or a local community center gathering, don’t forget to unveil you own memorial tribute to your wonderful day.

How Signs Are Made – Traditional Casting Method

We are often asked how signs are made when using the traditional sand cast technique. It is an art at each step of the way and every persons contribution to the sign making process is vital.

It all begins with exceptional customer service in understanding precisely what our customers want and are expecting.

Many people get confused when it comes to the different choice of metals and to have someone on hand to talk things through can be very reassuring.

Signcast Coating Cast House Signs For Durability

We are often asked if our house signs will withstand the sea air for those who live in coastal areas. The simple answer to that question is ‘Yes’. The reason that our cast aluminium house signs are so durable is due to the powder coating process that we use to finish the final cast plate. The powder consists of polyesters which fuse with the metal when it reaches 200C degrees . The polyesters are tested in a salt bath which reaches approx 1000 alloys before deterioration. The powder coating is designed for exterior use and in some cases is used to coat the inside walls of swimming pools, where it is in constant contact with salt water solutions on a daily basis. We are confident that your Signcast house plaque will last for years with a simple wipe over every now and then with a damp cloth.
